Click at "log in/ create an account" at the top of the screen to the right. "Create" an account using your real name and a password of your choice. Your e-mail will not become visible to others, so you can use any e-mail you like.

The advantages? You can be contacted on your edits by others, you can secondly put pages of your choice onto the "watchlist". In order to do that you click the tab "watch" of the page you are interested in. If you then click on "watchlist" in the top line at the right (where you've logged in) you can see all the pages you watch. (Which is the easy way to see whether changes of these pages have occurred.)
