In the course of the seminar Origins of the Novel 1473-1700 we are researching rogue stories. (Surprised, eh?)

Feel free to join our (upcoming) discussion.

Seminar Meeting: 07 May 2008:

We've decided to focus this meeting on Richard Head's 'English Rogue'. As it is too long for the seminar, we will provide you with some information on Head, the English Rogue and the genre, in the first place.

However, we would like you to read Richard Head's 'The life and death of the English rogue' (1679),EEBO a shorter story of about 30 pages on the same subject.

Additionally, we've found a very short ballad, which has some similarities to rogue stories and which we found worth discussing: 'Joy and sorrow mixt together'

You can also have a look at THE English Rogue. Don't read everything, just have a look at one or another chapter to get an impression: Richard Head: 'The English rogue described in the life of Meriton Latroon'
