Some of the titles listed are remarkable historical materials - they shed light on lost concepts of time and debates. Others are supposed to lead you into the [[With a Focus on History: Reading List I|historical reading list]] we recommend as a background to all who study English.

The goal of this two part Basismodul is

  • to introduce students to the wide range of seetings in which literature is debated today, and in which it was debated formerly;
  • to strengthen your sense of the differences between these settings;
  • to enable you both to contextualise and to participate in the scholarly discussion of literature.
