Please, feel free to ask (and answer) questions concerning the poetry assignment on this page. Best, Anna Auguscik 15:53, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello there, folks! You are able to sign your entries by adding four swung dashes (~~~~). That way everyone will know who wrote what, and when. Furthermore, you can indent your comment by typing any number of colons (:) at the beginning of a line. This is just general information concerning this Wiki as a whole not just this page. Anyway, good luck with your assignment!

Please identify AND analyse the figures of speech. Best, Michaela Koch 16:10, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Are we also supposed to comment on literal/ figurative parts, tenor/vehicle and ground? And what about interplay (in question 3)? It is mentioned in the topic but not in the task. Kind of confusing, sorry.

Deadline for this assignment?!

Does anyone know up to when (exactly) we have to hand in our assignments?! Sandra b. 17:24, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Friday, 13 Nov 2009, noon, in your instructor's mail box (A6, 2nd floor, next to our secretaries' offices). Best, Anna Auguscik 20:26, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Communicative Situation

Does anybody know who is addressed in line 12? (Does he mean the addressee or does the speaker mean himself?) And how are we supposed to write the metre and the rhyme-scheme down? Maybe like in the handout that was given to us- in three steps? Greetings, Milena

I would say that the speaker means the addressee/the woman in line 11 and 12.

Any idea who is meant by "they" in line 5?

"they" -> Maybe the sorrows!? Does anybody have an idea what is meant in line 12?

Questions on figurative speech

What are "figures of speech" (task 2b) - only the tropes (metaphor,metonymy,...) or also alliteration and parallelism? Greetings, Lena

To Lena: I think figures of speech are metonymy, synecdoche, allegory and symbols...you can look them up on the figurative speech handout
First I also thought that figures of speech are only tropes but then I found a handout on the wiki page which was called Figures_of_Speech and there were also the syntactic figures written down... confusing;) Greetings, Lena

Is it possible to use the "heart" for more than one figure of speech or is it better to choose other examples?! Sandra b. 17:24, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

i don't know but i personally wouldn't use "heart" for more than one figure of speech. user: Florenc 13:36, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Sections?

Would you say that the sections coincide with the periods, for instance section 1 (line 1-4), section 2 (line 5-8) 3 (9-12), 4 (13-14)?

Or is it more reasonable to go with the content/themes?
