Two months passed between our visits to Thai Bamboo Bistro, and now, on our next stop, we knew a bit more.

Sometimes, a bit more information is dangerous and adequate to persuade you to not go back to a restaurant.

Perhaps not now.

Our first visit was on a summer Monday. We were a little ahead of the lunch hurry, our 2-year-old was a subdued, and so we got a chance on a spot we had observed in the new Quail Hill Village shopping mall in Irvine, maybe not far from where the Hillcrest (I-405) and Santa Ana (I-5) Freeways meet in central Orange County, California.

The guts sprang up in the darkness of the Shady Canyon properties seemingly over night. It is out from the way -- you don"t just happen by.

It is in one of these new-generation town stores that has an all-too-familiar feel about it: anchor store on one end, Starbucks on another, universal fast-food and fast-casual restaurants between. This one was a little different -- a number of the team names were not quite therefore ubiquitous, and it appeared that the Irvine Co. Got a chance and rented to some non-franchise operators, too.

We went to the diner, and within 10 minutes, the personal place was packed. Therefore packed, we easily altered our sit-down order to to-go, hustled our now not-so-subdued little man out and headed home to probably the most appealing take-out we had had in weeks.

Marketplace curry with chicken ($12) was mellow and easy (we ordered the milder green curry; red and yellow can be found). Hot lemon grass chicken ($12) was zesty and new. Traditional pad thai ($11) -- my wife"s standard -- fragrant and generously portioned with shrimp, egg, tofu and noodles.

So, we went back, this time for dinner, minus the boy.

Again, the restaurant was full, although without the frustrating meal break. Again, our meal was delicious: more green curry and pad thai -- we are creatures of habit.

We were struck by the great, modern room, using its handful of bamboo decorative touches. By the briskly efficient service (though the meals can get to a far more languid speed, testimony to the new cooked-to-order kitchen). And by the incredibly fresh materials, taken in light sauces.

Then, well, living kept us away for some months, until I talked with director Amy Lam.
