A workshop designed (mainly) for 3rd semester students (after succesful completion of the BM).

A possible structure might look like this:

Orientation week, Winterterm:

1 four hour workshop, introducing aspects of academic study skills.

  • Academic research (databases, library resources)
  • Academic writing skills
  • Presentation skills (Visuals: Power Point, Wiki, transparencies on OHP, poster design, how to set up a computer and projector, etc)
  • Presentation skills (use of language, body language, etc)
  • Bibliographic records
  • Creating handouts
  • Creating additional materials for a presentation
  • Creating a term paper (coming up with a research question, knowing your way around MSWord)
  • Getting to know your section of the library (Bibliotheksschnitzeljagd als Herausforderung und nicht als Kinderkram)

All, or some of the aspects could/should appear as two or three hour tutorials over the course of the semester, taught by students, under supervision of experts from staff.
